February 2009 Newsletter

BBBRRRRR….SNOW, SNOW, AND MORE SNOW!!! Well one thing is good February always means Market is here. Nashville needlework market for stores is this weekend and we are anxiously awaiting news on the new releases. Many of the designers have given us a preview of what is coming out and we are pleasantly surprised at the amount of great designs coming out the next couple of weeks.

Shop News: Shepherd's Bush has 2 new patterns out that will be here very soon…Scatter Snowflakes and My Valentine…they also are doing a free series on the Newport linen. Santa's Coming is stitched in the shop for viewing. There is also Free and Halloween, all three are in the style of the My Valentine and have a special edition button. The Newport linen for those not familiar with this linen is 28ct with 1" blocks already added with contrasting threads. The design is usually stitched within each block. For those that don't stitch on linen you can get the same effect on Aida by adding the backstitch lines. Blackbird Designs is will be finishing their Loose Feathers this month! If you have missed any of these ( this last one is #34) be sure to call us since this was the year with the mystery sampler in it and you need at least the last 5 to do the mystery sampler which is really neat. These are retired after one year of release so soon they will not be available to us. Heart in Hand has a new snowman called Bernard who is just adorable. Just Nan has a series called "Over the Top" which is a limited edition tin series. There are 4 in the series. January saw the release of "Snow" and the other 3 will be coming in later this year. These are cute tins have you stitch the top and then there are sewing accessories to stitch also to store in the tin. She has a new design releasing the end of this month and mentions a release in March. Usually the March release is her yearly house with the sewing accessory to match. Drawn Thread has her Alphabet Sampler and has several new designs, "Morning Glory" and "Moonlight Garden". The Sweetheart Tree has several new designs including "P is for Princess", which is one of her Teenie Kits. She also has continued her Monthly Birthstone Samplers, "April", "May" and "June" have just arrived. She also has a new Special Edition kit that is called "Country French Heart". Also she has a new "Lavender Blossom Biscornu" with a matching scissor fob chart. SamSarah Designs Studios has a new bauble series this year and it is alphabet. "A is for Apple", "B is for Bee, "C is for Cupcake" and "D is for Dog" have been released and are really cute with their matching Just Another Button Co buttons. Pine Mountain Designs new series this year that is really neat. It is called a flange pillow and there were a couple released last year and this year's January and February are really cute! "March is Breezy" will be here soon and the picture is great! Also new from Pine Mountain is a framed up series. This series comes with a small painted frame and the fabric, thread, needle and pattern. The January and February one are here and we expect the March one any day. Several of her other series will also have new releases the month including: Tie on: "Friends Listen", All Tied up: "Spring Fling" and the Top Tie: "Be Hoppy".

Nora Corbett Designs was sneaky! We thought she was done with the reindeer but last month she also released a Christmas sleigh and "Rudolph", both great additions to this series. She has also continued her alphabet designs with the letter and fairy, J,K,L just came in. Country Cottage Needleworks has several new designs that have a beach theme. Really a great addition if you are looking for something summery for your seasonal areas. Lizzie Kate started this year's flip-its called "Boo-Club" and it is very popular. A Halloween themed flip-it series, the first 3 charts with a total of 6 patterns are here and the others will be released in April. She also plans another Flip-it series for later this year but we haven't heard a theme for that one as of yet. She has several new designs including "Just Text Me", "It's a Girl Thing" and a new Giggle Boxer series. All must have's for the Lizzie Kate enthusiast. Bent Creek¸ completed their "Large Zipper" series and "Alphabet Snapper". Several new designs are in the shop including "The First Fall of Snow". Victoria Sampler has added to her Heirloom series with "Stitching Sampler", even if this type of thing is not for you it is a great design! Lots of specialty stitches and groups of women sitting and sewing together with a wonderful verse about the passing down through the generations the love of stitching. She has continued her alphabet sampler with "W is for Witch" and there are several other designs that are in their usual wonderful style. Cedar Hill has finished her year in the bouquet with "Bouquet for December". Littlehouse Needleworks series starting next month "Little Women: Virtue Series". These will have the pattern and enough silk thread from Crescent to stitch the design on 28ct or 14ct. The charts will also carry an alphabet so you can personalize the picture for a special woman in your life. The first one pictured is "Gentle and Kind" and they have stitched Mother in the personalization area, March will be titled "Soft and Sweet". We should have the first one in the shop in the next week or so.

There are many other new patterns that we have heard about but not enough room in the newsletter to cover everything. We have seen some really nice things that are being released this weekend and are ordering as fast as they come out. Be sure to make a trip in soon and see what all new has come in.

On top of the patterns coming out we have some new notions that are coming out especially from Kelmscott. This is the company that does the cameo style needle minders that are magnetic and are a place to hold you needles. They have come out with an acorn and also you can now get an initial. These are priced at $9.00 and make a great gift. Kelmscott also has an Acorn Thread Minder and a round thread winder both in Mother of Pearl coming out this month. New scissors that are very tiny (less than 2") in multiple colors that will sell for $9.00. We are getting in gold, silver, red, purple and several other colors to start. Great for gifts or to coordinate with your favorite sewing accessory.

Framing Sale: A framing sale will be held February 16th to February 21st: 20% off of frames and mats. Labor and glass are not included. Due to our cost of Shepherd's Bush mats these will be a 10% discount only. Readymade frames that are in store are included in this discount. Get everything washed, pressed and those buttons sewn on!

Please allow up to 8 weeks for completion of framing due to high volume of framing requests during sale time. If you need it quickly be sure to let us know when you bring in your special job. Thanks

Stitch In:Diana is finally feeling better so we are scheduling a Stitch In. March 29th is the date and the place is as usual the shop. Start time will be 12:30 with food at 1pm and fun all afternoon. Limited to 20 people and cost will be $15.
We had good response the last time we tried a different sign up procedure so we are going to continue with that. Sign up for the Stitch In will start at 10am on Saturday February 28th. You can call or email as we will watch both and will take calls and emails according to the time they came in. We also ask that you limit the number of people you sign up per call to 2 since a large group of friends could take all the spaces in one phone call.

Share our stash:Pat and Diana have cleaned their stash and are going to do something special! At the same time as the framing sale we will have our stash here for you to go through. Some are things we will never stitch some are things we have stitched and won't do again, some are complete kits and some are just the pattern left from the kit. We are going to ask for a donation for our local Bowl for the Cure in support of Breast Cancer research. The money raised in the area goes to the Davenport Susan G Komen Foundation. The Bowl for the Cure also has sweatshirts and t-shirts with slogans for sale and we will have these in the shop also along with a Bowl for the Cure 2 year pocket calendar. Come in and look and help support Breast Cancer Research.

Looking forward to the arrival of the Daffodils and Tulips!!!

With a Love for Stitching
Pat and Diana
